Ballina Swim School has a vision to provide subsidised swim lessons at various times of the year. We made a few phone calls and then spoke to Royal Life Saving Australia who applied for funding through their joint initiative with Uncle Toby’s.
SWIM MY WAY granted Ballina Swim School $1725 to provide 5 complimentary swim lessons to swimmers for the July School holidays at Ballina Memorial Pool. This funding covered pool entry. Ballina Swim School provided the instructors time to enable the program to be facilitated to more children.
Children who participated were aged between 3 and 14 years in the holiday program. There were children who were beginners to more advanced swimmers. We had beginners aged 3 with the oldest non swimmers 9 and 11 years old. The oldest swimmer was 14 and he scooted his way to the pool each day to be able to attend.
The program inspired the 2 older boys to continue with their lessons. Their confidence and ability has improved each day they get in the pool, and they are enjoying their swimming. Their parents have shown so much appreciation for the turn around in their swimming.
Vorgee provided four swim caps and goggles sets as prizes for some of our swimmers. We did a random draw to choose our winners as everyone improved immensely during the week. This is one of our lucky winners of our Vorgee pack.
Ballina Swim School provided 2 poncho towels as prizes for the younger swimmers. Here is one of our other young swimmers with her poncho towel and her Royal Life Saving participation certificate.
We also had the wonderful Elysha and Brad from BandE Productions come down 2 days and video some of our swimmer’s in their classes and put together an amazing video of our special week of lessons. We have so much gratitude to you for coming down and supporting our funded program. The video was shared to Royal Life Saving Australia who then distribute to Uncle Toby’s and through their media channels.
Ballina Swim School SWIM MY WAY July 2019
We hope by sharing the video it highlights the importance of children learning to swim. Funding removes the financial barrier of swimming lessons for so many swimmers. If we can get more swimmers participating in lessons that in turn prevents drowning fatalities, and we see more children and adults enjoy their time in and around water. Everyone who participated appreciated the opportunity to complete the swim lessons and some parents have given some written feedback below.
